Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi today reviewed the progress of ongoing Narmada oriented water supply works in Saurashtra and Kutch in a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar.

As per the orders of the Election Commission of India, the execution of time-table of Narmada water supply in Saurashtra and Kutch was delayed. The Cheif Minister had promised the people of Rajkot that Narmada based canal pipeline water grid supply will begin after voting. As per the details shared in the meeting today, a ministerial sub-committee in Gujarat had finalized a time-table for completion of various branch-canal works in Saurashtra in August 2012. As per the timetable, 971 more villages and 21 more towns of saurashtra-Kutch regions are supplied Narmada water in last four and half months through pipelines. Rajkot has started getting supply of 14 crore liter water from today itself.

In the meeting, the CM said that Narmada branch canal oriented pieline works should be completed on war foot basis in all rural and urban areas of 8 districts of Saurashtra and Kutch before the limits prescribed in timetable.

The water supply department has connected 5588 villages and 79 cities of Saurashtra and Kutch through Narmada based pipeline and local water supply projects.

Narmada oriented water greed work was reviewed in the meeting. As per the details shared in the meeting:

Daily 36 crore liter water supply to 1045 villages and 23 towns in Rajkot, Jamnagar and Porbandar district from Malia canal head-works.

Daily 19 crore liter water supply to Kutch district’s 801 villages and 8 towns from Malia headworks.

Daily 17 crore liter water supply to 2325 villages and 38 towns of Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh and Porbandar districts from Navda head-works.

Daily water supply to 1045 villages and 23 towns of Rajkot and Jamnagar districts from Sadulka(Dhrangadhra branch canal).

Water supply to Khambhalia and Kalyanpur by connecting 606 villages and 14 towns ahead of Jamnagar district’s Panchdevda.

8 crore liter water supply project through pumping in Dholidhaja dam and Thangadh-Ratanpar pipeline works are to be completed on war foot basis.

Capacity of Navda head-works pumping stations raised to 44 crore liter from earlier 35 crore liter in August 2012. By April 2013, a grand pumping station will be able to supply 60 crore liter water. Thus 15 crore liter water supply has been added to this pipeline network. At present the works for daily 100 crore liter Narmada water supply and 163 crore liter locally sourced water supply are in progress.

The meeting also discussed SAUNI project.
