Kutchi spy back from Pakistan tells story of his five years in prisonIndian spy Hasam Sama did not die natural death, he was brutally killed by Pakistani agency in prison in Pakistan. This was revealed by another Indian spy Hanif Hingoraja who returned back to Kutch on Monday after his release from Pakistan prison. Hasam said he and Sama were arrested together, but later Sama was shifted to another jail. After two and half years when he met Sama, he saw marks of injury on Sama’s left hand. Sama was beaten brutally continuously for 15 days after which he a diabetes patient died. Pakistan did not hand over his dead body to India. Sama’s dead body was handed over to local relatives in Pakistan to avoid postmortem in India. Hanif said that there are two Kutchis still languishing in Pakistani jails. One is in Karachi’s Landhi jail while the other is in Hyderabad jail.

Hanif Hingoraja belongs to Kutch’s Mota bandha village. He was sent to Pakistan with Hasam Sama in 2008 by Indian agencies. His selection was made because he had good knowledge of Sindhi language.

Hanif told media persons that it took one night to reach desired house of Indian source across the border. The source in Pakistan had problem with some family members, who ultimately informed Pakistani agency about arrival of Hanif and Sama. The agencies picked them up and brutally tortured.

Hanif said, he and Sama were tied upside down naked and beaten frequently. This went on for four months. He said he was kept in a narrow room, and not permitted to go outside even for nature’s call. After crying for 15 days they would allow to go out to take bath.

The agency, he said wanted him to confess that this was not his first mission to Pakistan.

“Pakistani agencies were not ready to accept that I was Muslim. They firmly believed that I was either a Sikh or a Hindu. When I showed my Sunnat, beard and spoke verses of Quran, they said this all was taught by Indian agency.

“They wanted me to say that this is my 10th visit to Pakistan as spy. They wanted me to say that I was not Muslim. They wanted me to confess the things which were not true. Though I was visiting Pakistan for first time, and my knowledge was limited about such activities, they wanted me to tell so much. When I didn’t tell the things to Judge that they wanted me to tell, I was beaten badly. It was fifth court where the Judge penned down the details that a Major dictated. My eyes were then opened and signature was taken on confession paper,” he said.

Hanif didn’t reply a question on how much he was to be paid in exchange of his spy mission.

Hanif said he was taken to five different jails in Pakistan during last five years.

The court released me 12 months back, but they were not releasing me. I handed over a letter to Junagadh’s Jahangir, on the basis of which Nana Dinara’s Fazalbhai Alimamad Sama reached Human right agency. Thanks to their attempts, I am here back in Kutch.

According to Nana Dinara village’s deputy sarpanch Fazal Alimamad, Rajkot based lawyer Shri MK Pal communicated to Prime Minister, Home Ministry, Foreign ministry and envoys of India and Pakistan. Hanif was later released on 7th of July. He was handed over to Red cross Amritsar by Pakistan police.

Hanif was unaware about his mother’s death when he was in Pakistan jail. He was told about this development only after he returned back to his village.

When Hanif left home for Pakistan his son was 3 months old. Today he is 5 year old. Hanif has four daughters too.

When people hugged Hanif one-by-one as per the local custom in Khavda belt, Hanif asked them not to do so because his body was still paining due to physical torture he suffered in Pakistan.
