Pakistani National Apprehended Near Kutch’s Haji Pir

Kutch: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a 40-year-old Pakistani national after he crossed into Indian territory near Haji Pir in Kutch, marking the fifth such apprehension along the border in the past seven days.

The individual, identified as Chand Mahmand, was intercepted by personnel of the BSF’s 90th Battalion near Border Pillar No. 1109/M during a routine patrol. Security agencies are questioning him to ascertain the circumstances under which he crossed the international border.

According to preliminary information, BSF personnel spotted the individual entering Indian territory through the rugged desert terrain. Despite being challenged to stop, he continued moving forward and was subsequently surrounded and apprehended around 20 metres beyond the border fencing.

Pakistani national found in distressed condition

At the time of his apprehension, Mahmand was reportedly wearing a torn shirt and appeared to be in a distressed condition. He repeatedly asked for water and was heard making incoherent statements, raising suspicions that he could be mentally unstable and may have crossed the border inadvertently.

A search conducted by BSF personnel did not yield any suspicious or objectionable items, according to preliminary findings. Security agencies are carrying out further interrogation and investigation to establish his identity and determine the circumstances of his entry into India.

Five Pakistani nationals apprehended in a week

The latest apprehension comes amid increased vigilance along the Kutch border. Four Pakistani nationals and a suspicious boat were reportedly intercepted in the Sir Creek area around a week ago.

With the latest incident, five Pakistani nationals have been apprehended along the Kutch border in seven days. BSF personnel have intensified surveillance and patrolling along the sensitive border stretch to prevent unauthorised crossings. DeshGujarat
