Adani’s Mundra SEZ gets enviornmental clearance from centre

Ahmedabad, 16 July, 2014

The Gautam Adani-led company Adani Ports and SEZ, received environment and coastal regulation zone clearance from the central government for its special economic zone at Mundra Port in Gujarat, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

In January this year the Gujarat High Court had ordered a shutdown of 12 out of 21 units in Mundra SEZ, in response to a public interest litigation.

The Supreme Court later allowed the reopening of the units, but further construction was not permitted till it received required clearances. The company will now be able to attract more cargo, set a mega desalination plant and an effluent treatment plant and manufacturing units in the SEZ.

“The grant of the environmental clearance to Mundra SEZ by the Ministry of Environment and Forest will encourage investment in SEZ and the development is expected to be at a much
faster pace as it provides seamless connectivity through sea, rail and road,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group.
