Adani Gas CNG Price Hike: Gujarat Congress Flags ₹16.20 Rise in Six Months
October 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee has criticised Adani Total Gas for increasing compressed natural gas (CNG) prices by ₹4.45 per kg, taking the rate in Ahmedabad to ₹98.47 per kg. The party said the latest hike was part of a series of repeated increases over the past six months, placing an additional financial burden on ordinary citizens, particularly auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, school van drivers, small transporters and middle-class families.
In a press statement dated October 23, Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr Hiren Banker said CNG prices had increased by a cumulative ₹16.20 per kg since April 2026, according to the six hikes listed in the statement. He condemned the repeated revisions, arguing that ordinary citizens should not have to bear the cost of corporate pricing decisions or policy failures.
According to the statement, CNG prices were increased by ₹1.50 per kg on April 2, ₹2.25 on May 16, ₹2 on May 27, ₹2 on July 19, ₹4 on August 1 and ₹4.45 on October 23.
Banker said the latest increase, announced just days before Diwali, would further strain household budgets and raise operating costs for people whose livelihoods depend on CNG-powered vehicles.
Adani Total Gas has cited rising international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices and reduced availability of domestic gas as reasons for the price revisions, the Congress statement said. However, the party alleged that the burden of these developments was being passed on to consumers.
The Congress also pointed to rising fuel expenses for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders and CNG amid persistent inflation, saying households and small businesses were already facing financial pressure.
The party called on the Centre to intervene immediately and ensure that the latest CNG price hike is rolled back. It also demanded greater transparency regarding gas allocation and the reasons behind repeated price increases.
“Ordinary citizens cannot be expected to pay the price for corporate pricing decisions or policy failures,” Banker said, adding that the Congress would continue to raise the issue until relief was provided to affected drivers, transport operators and families.
