NIT Ahmedabad to represent India at the International Robocon 2014


Ahmedabad, 11 August, 2014

Nirma Institute of Technology, Ahmedabad along with VJTI Mumbai will represent India at the International Robocon 2014 to be held in India at Pune on 24th August 2014. Organised by Doordarshan and MIT Academy of Engineering, Pune at Shiv Chatrapati Krida Sankul, Balewadi, on Sunday 24th August 2014, International Robocon will be the biggest platform for Engineering
Students of India to showcase their technical knowledge and compete with the Asian Giants in Robotics . The theme for this Contest is ‘A Salute to Parenthood’ with the message that Parenthood is the greatest boon offered to mankind by Mother Nature. Further details about the Theme and Game rules are available on www.roboconindia.com. Being the host country, India will be allowed to field two teams for participation in the International contest. Therefore, both the Winner (Nirma Institute of Technology Ahmedabad) and first Runner-up of the National Robocon (VJTI Mumbai) held in March 2014 will represent India in the International Robocon 2014.

More than 16 countries will participate in this event which would
include India, Brunei , Darussalam , Egypt , Fiji ,HongKong, Indonesia ,Iran ,Japan , Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia -Nepal ,Rep. of Korea -Russia , Sri Lanka Thailand, Vietnam amongst others.

Dr Sunil Karad, Chief Convenor and Director MIT Group of Institutes said that being the host country two teams from India will be allowed to participate at the International Robocon 2014. So both Nirma Institute and VJTI will get a chance to showcase their skills in front of the so called Asian Giants in Robotics . It will be a big challenge and learning experience for Indian students as some of the countries like China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam are far ahead of India when it comes of Manufacturing sector. Indians students have primarily faced a lot of challenges right from sourcing the parts required to build a robot from different countries to seeking help from Industry. This will be the biggest challenge for Engineering Students of India to face teams from Robotically advanced countries on our home turf. This will give them tremendous exposure and Indian students will get an opportunity to interact with more than five hundred foreign delegates including students.

Parenthood bestows a wide range of experiences that offer love, security, stimulation, encouragement and opportunities to help a child flourish and grow to achieve its full potential. Robocon India honours parents for their immense contribution by announcing the Robocon 2014 theme as: “A SALUTE TO PARENTHOOD.

Dr Yogesh Bhalerao, Chief Coordinator of Robocon and Principal MIT Academy of Engineering said that being the principal host for such an international event we not only will take care of organizing the event as always, but we are making concentrated efforts to generate more participation from Engineering Students and Industry and also from younger school students who might be the part of the audience .

Dr Yogesh Bhalerao added that the International Robocon 2014 will be telecasted live in 16 different countries through their respective national broadcasters, while Doordarshan as always will telecast the event in India.

The prizes would be segmented into ABU Robocon AWARD GRAND PRIX, 1st Runner up, 2nd Runner up, Best Idea , Best Engineering and Best Design Award.
