Gujarat forest department set up deer breeding center

Bharuch, 12 October 2014

Gujarat forest department has set up a breeding center to increase population of deer.

The breeding center has been set up on one ha land near Umarvva(Joshi) village of Garudeshwar taluka in Narmada district. The center is close to Kevadia colony where Narmada dam is situated.

Due to decreased population of deers in Satpuda forest, forest department has in its effort kept a pair of male and female deer here.

Breeding of pair has been successful and total number of deers is now five. The center is looked after by Dr. HR Prabuddh, Gora Range RFO PN Vasava and Anirudhdhsinh Gohil.

Years ago, Satpuda and Vindhyachal hills had tigers, leopards, bear among other wild animals. Nowadays its difficult to spot tigers and bears.

Locals demand that deer breeding center should be in future shaped into a full scale deer park which can be another tourist destination in this area for visitors who visit Narmada dam site in monsoon.
