Decades-Old Sardar Sarovar Financial Dispute Resolved at Narmada Authority Meeting
October 27, 2026
Gandhinagar: Gujarat and three other states have reached a resolution to settle decades-old pending financial dues linked to the Sardar Sarovar Project, with the agreement receiving final approval at the 15th meeting of the Review Committee of the Narmada Control Authority (RCNCA) in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil chaired the meeting, which was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan joined the meeting through video conferencing. The meeting also approved the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached earlier among the four states to resolve the long-pending financial dispute.
The settlement builds on the consensus reached at a meeting held on July 7, 2026, under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, in the presence of the chief ministers of the four states. The latest meeting finalised the resolution of the dispute and emphasised the time-bound settlement of pending payments and effective implementation of the agreement.
Describing the development as a historic resolution, Patil said the settlement marked a new chapter in cooperative federalism and national unity.
The agreement is expected to strengthen cooperation among Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, while advancing the shared objective of using Narmada water for the prosperity of the four states, farmers’ welfare and the country’s development. DeshGujarat
