GoI-GoG to form a joint working group to speed up the ongoing chemicals & fertilisers projects

The Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel met the Minister for Chemicals & Fertilisers Shri Ananth Kumar, New Delhi today to discuss various projects relating to the State in the fields of chemicals, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals. It was decided that a joint working group of officials of the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers and the State Government will be formed to take forward various projects that are in the pipeline.
They include developing a full-fledged campus for the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER) at Ahmadabad, to further develop the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investments Region (PCPIR)/SEZ at Dahej, where the ONGC Petro Additions Limited (OPaL) is already setting up a plant.
Both the leaders expressed happiness that the Gujarat is the only State which exceeded the targeted investments for the PCPIR and decided that they will further take it forward through downstream industries in the plastics sector also.
It was felt that the Central Institute for Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) will be asked to take forward the plastics industries also in the State and some of the issues are to be discussed at the forthcoming Plast India Conference in February 2015.
Shri Ananth Kumar said that the Gujarat had been a leading pharmaceutical producer and further steps are to be taken to expand the industry in this sector. it could also be explored for setting up of an exclusive Tech Park for medical devices, the minister felt. The issue of setting up of Fertilizer Plants in Gujarat under New Investment Policy of the Ministry also came for discussion.
