The department of Civil Aviation, Government of Gujarat and Maritime Energy Heli Air Service Pvt. Ltd.(MEHAIR), flagged off the inaugural flight from Ahmedabad airport to Porbandar in Gujarat today.

For the regional airline service, the company has initially deployed Cessna 208 Grand Caravan Aircraft with capacity to carry nine passengers and two pilots. In the coming months, second aircraft will also be added with parking of these aircraft at Ahmedabad and Surat.

From 5th January 2015, regular flights are scheduled to Ahmedabad-Bhuj, Ahmedabad-Jamnagar and Ahmedabad-Porbandar. The tickets to all these destinations are priced at Rs 4999(introductory fare) per person one way and one can book the ticket on www.mehair.in.

With launch of this project, Gujarat is the only second state in the country after Madhya Pradesh to have its own regional intra-state aviation service.

Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt. Ltd.(MEHAIR) has been permitted by Gujarat government to start its intra-state air connectivity service through tender process administered by Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited.

In November, Civil Aviation minister of Gujarat Shri Saurabh patel had made announcement that MEHAIR will start intra-state operation in next two months period with minimum two 9-10 seater planes initially to connect Ahmedabad, Surat, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Kandla, Keshod, Porbandar and Rajkot where air strips are existing. MEHAIR company has selected Surat and Ahmedabad airports for parking at present.

While launching the service today, Shri Saurabh Patel, Civil Aviation Minister of Gujarat said, “this service, provided by GUJSAIL is expected to positively affect the convenience, travel time and intra state regional connectivity along with facilitating tourism boost for the users given that the aircraft will take a far lesser time to connect two points as opposed to road or railway journeys. The fatigue involved in reaching these destinations will also come down drastically.”

Speaking on the occasion of the commercial launch of the service, Mr. CL Laxmanan, Co-founder and Director said, “now people can finish business in a distant city within the state and still make it home in time to their home city the same day.”
