Gujarat Chief Minister is scheduled to open a new Bus Rapid Transit System(BRTS) corridor in Surat connecting Magdalla Y Junction to Sarthana today. A 20 km long corridor has been built at a cost of Rs. 335 crore. It will carry 36 AC automatic door buses. The corridor will have 26 bus shelters.
Construction of this route popularly known as ‘canal route’ has taken 7 years. This route will make it possible to travel between Citilight and Kamrej in just 30 minutes. This route is considered an alternative route to highly burdened Ring road.
On the ground, people are less interested in BRTS but are jubilant over completion of a newly built and very useful Canal road which is part of the BRTS project. BRTS journey on this route will be free of cost till 17 May for promotion.
