Water released from Dharoi dam, low lying river bank areas in Ahmedabad alerted

Ahmedabad
Riverfront in Ahmedabad could be inaccesible for walkers and others today due to some flooding in river Sabarmati following release of 1.5 lakh to 2.0 lakh cusec water from Dharoi dam in north Gujarat which is filled upto its danger level. 23 of 30 gates of Vasna barrage in Ahmedabad have been opened by administration to release water from river Sabarmati. Water released from Dharoi dam will travel to Ahmedabad and make an impact in city stretch of river Sabarmati by evening. There are some low lying areas settled next to river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad in Juna Vadaj, Ramapir Tekra pockets. The administration has asked the people in these areas to shift to safer place. Irrigation department had already started releasing water from Ahmedabad stretch of river Sabarmati a few days back so that level could be brought down to accommodate rain water discharge from Ahmedabad city. The city of Ahmedabad is not experiencing rain since sunrise today and the sky is partially sunny so far. This is a cause of relief for administration, because the river otherwise can not accommodate the water released from Dharoi dam and rain water discharged from within the city both together.
