Charges framed against Narayan Sai and 9 others in Surat court

A local court here today framed charges against Narayan Sai, the jailed son of Asaram, who is himself behind bars, and nine of his associates including four women in connection with the sensational rape case which was filed in October 2013.
The next date of hearing has been fixed for September 1.
A local lady had accused Sai of repeated sexual assault between 2002 and 2005 when she was living at his Surat ashram, following which he was booked under various sections of IPC including rape, unnatural sex, molestation, wrongful confinement etc.
Interestingly, the elder sister of the victim had lodged a separate complaint against Sai’s father Asaram accusing him of repeated sexual assault between 2001 and 2006 when she was living in his ashram on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. His case is separately being heard by a court in Gandhinagar.
The court of additional district judge H S Mulia framed the charges against Sai under sections 376, 377 (rape), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). His associates Kaushal Thakur, Ganga Patel, Jamna Patel, Mohit Bhojwani, Monica Agrawal, Ramesh Malhotra, Ajay Diwan, Neha Diwan and Pankaj Devda were also booked under section 120 (B), 212 (helping in escape), 153 143, 147,149 (related to rioting and inciting ) and 506 (2) (using foul language) of the IPC.
All the accused were present in the court. Sai, wearing a pink robe with a cap was brought from the Lajpore central jail, where he is cooling his heels since December 5, 2013.
