A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight with 143 passengers and six crew-members on board suffered a bird-hit today, forcing it to land at the city airport soon after it took off, officials said.
The bird strike caused a minor damage in one of the engines of the plane.
“A bird hit IndiGo flight No. 6E-158 on way to Delhi from Ahmedabad with 143 passengers and six crew-members on board. Following this, the plane turned back and landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here,” a senior official of the airport said.
“However, no passengers suffered any injuries and they were accommodated in another flight to Delhi within an hour,” he said.
The incident occurred around 15 minutes after the aircraft took off, the official said, adding the bird hit the left wing of the aeroplane, resulting in a minor damage in one of the engines.
Sources in the private airline also confirmed the incident.
