Vadodara based sculptor Mahendra Pandya dies at 89

Well-known sculptor Mahendra Pandya passed away here after a brief illness at his residence, family sources said today.
Pandya, 89, who died yesterday, was dean of faculty of fine arts of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
His son Rahul said, “My father was suffering from old age related ailments and passed away at our residence yesterday.”
Artist and Padma Shri recipient Ghulam Sheikh, sculptors including Nagji Patel, Raghav Kaneria and Jyoti Bhatt among others attended his funeral.
Patel said Pandya had vast knowledge of both theory and practise in the field of sculpting.
Other artists who were present also paid rich tributes to Pandya.
