Choryasi assembly by-poll: Gujarat BJP sends 3-name panel to Delhi

Surat/Gandhinagar

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has decided three-name panel to select the candidate for Choryasi assembly by-election which is scheduled to take place on January 21.

70% part of Choryashi assembly seat comes under Surat city while 30% in district. In total 37 BJP workers had sought ticket to contest the by-poll which is taking place after then sitting BJP MLA Raja Patel’s death last August due to Dengue.

It is learnt that three name panel has been made for final selection of candidate. The panel has been sent to BJP Central Parliamentary Board in Delhi.

There are four persons from Raja Patel’s family that have sought ticket to contest from BJP. Raja Patel’s brother, son Krunal, daughter Zankhana and wife Induben have demanded ticket to contest the poll.

MLA Narottam Patel who was once MLA of this area when it was an undivided constituency had favored Dayashankar Singh’s name for candidature. The other name considering the district side areas was district general secretary Sandip Desai. Thus the three-name panel includes any one family member from Raja Patel’s family, Dayashankar Singh and Sandip Desai. The announcement of candidate is likely to take place on January 3.

Meanwhile on the first day of nomination, total 18 forms were distributed. As notification has been issued, 3 static surveillance teams and two video shooting teams of election commission are in action in the field.
