It is now very much in public knowledge that leftover kite strings after Uttarayan festival which is better known as kite flying festival cause injury to birds and even kill them in many cases. An organization in south Gujarat’s Navsari therefore decided this year to procure such strings in exchange of reward and thus encourage the removal of leftover kite strings from places.
Navsari based Banas Gauseva Kendra had made announcement for Rs 20 reward per 100 gram kite string wastage. In response to this announcement, people sent over 75 kg string wastage which was ultimately burnt at organization’s campus in Dantej village of Navsari taluka.
The organization had with support of Hanuman Chlisa Gau Seva Mandal – Jalalpor road started awareness campaign 10 days before Uttarayan.
Every year, before, during and after Uttarayan(14th January), thousands of birds across Gujarat suffer treatable/permanent injury and many of them are killed due to kite strings, as millions of people fly kites in this period.
