Surat Commissioner presents Rs 5,226 crore draft budget of SMC

Surat Municipal Commissioner Milind Torvane on Saturday proposed Rs 5,226 crore draft budget of Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) for year 2016-17. The draft budget includes Rs 3,060 crore capital expenditure, Rs 1,165 crore tax target, increase of Rs 67 crore tax. The draft budget projects capital revenue of Rs 1941 crore, revenue income of Rs 2378 crore and revenue surplus of Rs 396 crore.

Some of the highlights of this draft budget are following:

– 27 km river drive road connecting Savji Korat bridge to Magdalla ONGC bridge.River drive road will be 23.86 km long on right side of river Tapi while 27.81 km long on left side of the river. It will connect 11 bridges of river Tapi. It will have 10 sections on right side while 11 on left side. In future the SMC will also develop internal water-ways through ferry boat.

– Rs 150 crore for smart city.

– Rs 5 crore for revamped railway station.

– Rs 10 crore for feasibility report of Metro rail project.

– Rs 25 crore for headquarters of SMC.

– Regional center in Surat for traffic education.

– 500 city buses by year-end.

– Rs 478 crore for BRTS, Rs 145 crore for BRTS phase -2.

– Addition of 180 bed in SMIMER hospital.

– Ring road development as high-mobility corridor.

– Middle ring road development by fixing missing links.

– One general hospital and nursing college.

– 14 new bridges including two river bridges over Tapi, 3 railway flyover bridge, 3 creek bridge.

– Road network alignment works in light of Surat Metro Rail Detail Project Report

– Planning to source row water from Kakrapar, Gaypagla

– Train-fun rides based on PPP model at Maharana Pratap garden and NFL garden

– 800 bus-stops on 30 routes with 1,000 buses

– Institute of road traffic education

– GPS based tree census

– 300 bed new general hospital

– Multi disciplinary research facility at SMIMER hospital
