Vav assembly by-election: Campaigning ends, polling on Nov 13

Vav: Campaigning for the Vav assembly bypoll concluded on Monday evening, with a total of 10 candidates, including those from the ruling BJP and Congress, running in the election.

Returning officer and assistant collector Kartik Jivani confirmed that campaigning ended at 6 pm on Monday, with voting scheduled to begin at 7 am on November 13 (tomorrow). The votes will be counted on November 23.

The ruling BJP has fielded Swaroopji Thakor, while former Tharad MLA Gulabsinh Rajput is contesting on a Congress ticket. Another candidate making headlines is BJP rebel Mavji Patel, who has been suspended by the party. In addition to these three, there are six independent candidates and one Bharatiya Jan Parishad party candidate running in the bypoll.

The Vav seat became vacant following the resignation of Congress MLA Geniben Thakor, who won the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat in June.

Several prominent leaders from both the Congress and BJP, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat BJP president and Union Minister CR Paatil, and Gujarat Congress in-charge Mukul Wasnik, held rallies in Vav over the past week.

The constituency has 3.10 lakh registered voters, comprising 1.61 lakh men and 1.49 lakh women. DeshGujarat
