The Indian Coast Guard saved all the five crew members from a fishing boat which sank off the Okha coast in Gujarat last night.

Defence Spokesperson Wing Commander Abhisek Matiman today said that Indian Coast Guard Ship Arinjay, whilst on patrol last night, received a distress call from the Indian fishing boat Madhav Krushna, about 110 kms off Okha, regarding heavy flooding due to ingress of sea water.

The ICG ship immediately responded and proceeded towards the distressed boat. On arrival, the fishing boat was taken alongside the ICG ship and all the five crew members of distressed boat were safely taken aboard. ICG ship made all efforts to deflood the sea waters from the fishing boat, however, due to excess ingress and prevailing rough sea conditions, the fishing boat sank despite all efforts. The rescued fishermen were brought to Okha. The sank fishing boat was registered at Porbandar.

The Coast Guards off Gujarat coast since last year have facilitated saving of 49 lives in distress at sea till date, he said.
