Mahesana
In yet another incident of arson in Gujarat State Transport Corporation run bus ( popularly know as ST bus), some miscreants tried to burn down one such bus in Visnagar depot of the corporation in Mahesana district late last night, police said today.
Visnagar police station in charge M H Vaghela said that the incident took place at around 1130 pm. ‘The CCTV footage shows three young chaps trying to burn down a bus kept in the depot for night halt. The bus was damaged in the incident with all the seats and some other parts reduced to ashes,’ he said.
Notably, Visnagar town in North Gujarat is deemed a hot bed of Patidar quota stir where in July last year the mob had attacked the office of local BJP MLA Rushikesh Patel and burnt down a car parked there during a pro-reservation rally of the Patel community. In the past the quota stir supporters had burnt several ST buses in different parts of the state.
To a query, the police officer said that currently the investigation was on. The complaint was filed by the depot manager and nothing can be said as to whether the crime had any links with the quota stir.
He said that police were trying to nab the trio seen in the CCTV footage.
Incidentally, the incident took place on a day when a local court in Ahmedabad had rejected the bail plea of three leaders of the quota stir in a sedition case.
