The Gujarat police and other related security agencies are investigating a suspected use of a banned transmission equipment in Kutch district of Gujarat in the bordering area of Pakistan.

Security agencies had reportedly noticed signals from a transmission equipment made in Dubai which is banned in India but is used in Pakistan. There were reports of some suspicious intercepts also being caught by the security agencies.

S P West Kutch police district, Makrand Chauhan, today said that the investigation was on. ‘But I can’t reveal anything more at this juncture for security reasons,’ he said adding that the investigation was being done with regard to both angles i e the intercept and the use of the said equipment (banned satellite phone).

Mr. Chauhan, however refused to divulge the location of the intercept and the use of the satellite equipment, saying it was a sensitive issue and still under investigation.

The incident has assumed additional significance in the wake of the on going high alert in the state following last month’s intelligence inputs regarding sneaking in of terrorists through sea route to conduct terror strike.

Western part of Kutch district has also seen the capture of several abandoned Pakistani boats in last few months following which the security agencies have become extra vigilant.
