The Gujarat Government today issued the ordinance providing for 10 % reservation to the economically weaker sections of unreserved category in the state government run educational institutions and jobs.

The notification with regard to the issuance of ordinance named “Gujarat Binanamat Arthik Rite Nabda Vargon (Rajyamani Shaikshanik Samsthao ane Rajya Hedhanin Seawaoma nimnuko jagyaoma Anamat Baithako Rakhwa Babat ) Vathukam 2016 was published in the state gazette (extraordinary) as ordinance number 1 of 2016.

It provides for 10 % reservation to the economically weaker sections of unreserved categories with annual family income up to Rs 6 lakh.

On April 29, the ruling BJP had announced regarding the issue of the ordinance on May 1, the foundation day of the state, after its core committee meet which was also attended by its national president Amit Shah. The state cabinet had given its approval to the draft of the ordinance the same evening.
