AAP MLA sent to one day’s police custody
New Delhi: AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, arrested after a woman alleged that he tried to mow her down after she visited his residence to raise the issue of power cuts, was today sent to one day’s police custody by a court here.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ashok Kumar sent the Okhla MLA, who was produced in court, on police remand after Delhi Police sought his custody for investigation into the complaint.
Several protesters were seen shouting slogans outside the Saket court.
Khan, also the chairman of the Delhi Waqf board, was first detained for questioning and then arrested, a day after he alleged in a press conference that the woman was “pressurised” by police into giving a false statement against him.
According to police, on July 22, the woman had recorded her statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC.
She had alleged while she was returning from the legislator’s residence, a vehicle tried mowing her down and Khan was sitting in it.
Prior to that, she had on July 19 filed a complaint with police alleging that at the AAP MLA’s residence in Jamia Nagar, a youth had on July 10 abused her and threatened that she would be killed if she did not stop politicising the matter.
An FIR was subsequently registered in this regard under section 506 (criminal intidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.
After her statement to the magistrate, Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) was added to the FIR, a police officer said.
The woman had yesterday filed three police complaints alleging she was receiving threats from unidentified persons, following which she was provided security.
The woman, a resident of Jasola, had last week in a police complaint said she had telephoned Khan on July 10 and later went to his Batla House residence to raise the issue of power cuts with him.
She claimed the MLA did not meet her and while she was returning, a youth came out of the house, abused her and threatened that she would be killed if she did not stop politicising the matter.
Later, the FIR was registered against an unidentified youth under sections 506 and 509 of IPC at Jamia Nagar police station.
Khan had, however, said he did not even know if the woman came to his residence.
AAP leadership incompetent, stands exposed: BJP after MLA’s arrest
After the arrest of another AAP MLA, BJP today said the party stood “exposed” on the issue of probity, accused it of being “insensitive” towards common people with its workers blocking roads causing inconvenience and termed its leadership as “incompetent”.
“As far as probity in public life is concerned, you have seen that so many MLAs are now being accused and charge-sheeted on various criminal charges. There has been a series of events which gradually exposed the true face of their so called probity.
“Now, as far as their concern for common man is concerned, today’s incident has made it very clear that they are totally insensitive and just for the sake of political mileage and vendetta, they are trying to put the common man in problem,” BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told reporters.
AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was today arrested after a woman alleged that he tried to mow her down when she visited his residence to raise the issue of power cuts, making him the tenth party legislator to be arrested.
Addressing a press conference, Trivedi said during the dharna staged by AAP workers after the arrest, they blocked roads and made the common people suffer.
“Some of them had serious problems and trying to go to hospitals and they were requesting AAP workers to give them way, but unfortunately it was not done and this shows the level of insensitivity that AAP is having towards the aam aadmi,” he said.
Trivedi said, “AAP had two self-proclaimed causes of which they consider themselves as champion. One is probity in public life and the other their concern for common man.”
Trivedi said AAP workers were dissatisfied and the party leadership was incompetent both in terns of governance and controlling the party.
Trivedi said there is an established procedure of law and protests in the event of an arrest “means you are not having faith in law and neither you are sensitive to the common man”.
The BJP leader also attacked BSP for inaction against the workers who used abusive language against expelled party leader Dayashankar Singh’s family and said it was done as part of a “well though-out strategy”.
“There is a distinct difference between what happened on the part of BJP and what happened on the part of BSP. One of our former state vice presidents Dayashankar Singh had said something in his private capacity which party totally denounced and condemned.
“Though he himself tendered an unconditional apology, our party considered his action unpardonable. Our state president tendered an apology and our leader in the Rajya Sabha and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tendered apology and we have expelled him from the party,” he said.
On the contrary, whatever BSP has done is a well-planned agitation under the guidance of their top leadership, he said.
MLA Amanatullah should be booked for ‘hate speech’ too: BJP
Attacking AAP after its MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested, BJP today demanded that the Delhi legislator be booked for allegedly spreading communal disharmony with his “hate speech”.
Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said one more face has been added “to the notorious team of Arvind Kejriwal’s women bashers”.
“His (Amanatullah ) arrest has happened too late. Infact Delhi Police should arrest him for spreading communal disharmony and for his hate speech during a Urdu Academy function earlier this year,” he said.
Upadhyay alleged that Kejriwal’s MLAs were “intoxicated with power and going berserk”.
“Delhi Police should act tough and arrest him for repeatedly trying to spread communal disharmony in Okhla area.
“Similarly a suo motu case should be registered by Delhi Police in the matter of hate speech delivered by Amanatullah Khan at a Urdu Academy function earlier this year and he should be arrested,” he said.
Khan was today taken into custody after a woman alleged that he tried to mow her down after she visited his residence to raise the issue of power cuts, the tenth party legislator to be arrested.
