Welspun to foray in to mass home textile market

Ahmedabad: Welspun India Ltd, one of the world’s leading home textile companies, which has both its Indian manufacturing units based in Gujarat,today said that it would foray in to the mass market around Diwali this year.
Addressing a press conference here today, head of the domestic business of Welspun Global brands ltd, Subrata Pal said that the company has so far been in premium brand market with patented hygrocotton products sold under its own brands like Spaces home & beyond, Christy, Hygro Comfort and others in India and 32 other countries including the US.
He said that the company would launch its brand Welhome, priced keeping in mind the urban middle class, around Diwali this year.
Mr Pal said that total size of the Indian home textile market was Rs 47850 crores of which 33000 crores was in urban areas and 18690 crores in the cities with over two lac population. ‘But the sorry part is that of the 47850 crores only 2131 crores is branded market. Rest is unorganized. We deal with this small part and our premium products include towels, bed sheets and others,’ he said.
‘Our patent premium products using 100% Indian cotton, hygrocotton, with yarns having air bubbles to make the bed warmer in winter and cooler in summer, launched in the US four years back and In India 6 to 7 months ago is faring well. Now we will also target the mass market with our Welhome brand of products,’ he said.
The company has modern manufacturing facilities at Anjar and Vapi in Gujarat, where it produces the entire range of home textiles for bed & bath category.
