Gujarat Congress refuses to join govt in congratulating Urjit Patel
August 23, 2016
Gandhinagar: On the last day Gujarat assembly session, the government side moved motion to congratulate two Indian women players who won Olympic medals, one students from Gujarat who stood first in NEET examination nationwide and Urjit Patel who has become second Gujarati to become Governor of Reserve Bank of India(RBI).
Opposition Congress party agreed to join the government in this motion so far as first three names were concerned but refused to approve congratulatory motion for Urjit Patel.
Leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela speaking to media outside the assembly complex said: We supported the motion so far as first three names were concerned. But then be clear that government had no role to play for their success. We refused to join the government so far as third name was concerned. We believed Urjit Patel doesn’t deserve congratulation only because he is Gujarati. He had worked in Reliance and GSPC in the past. We think mentioning him in this motion is not right tradition.
