AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal cancels his Gujarat visit scheduled on March 26

Ahmedabad: Aam Admi Party(AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has canceled his Gujarat visit which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, said Dr Kanubhai Kalsaria here today.

Kejriwal was to address a meeting of AAP cadres at Chhavni ground in sector 6 of Gandhinagar. Gujarat elections incharge of AAP and cabinet minister in Delhi government Gopal Rai had paid several visits to Gujarat for preparation of this public event. Thousands of posters of this event were also printed and put on walls. The programme was first publicized as a rally, but later it was downsized to sammelan of AAP cadre in size of 20,000 to 30,000.

Now the programme has been further downsized and Arvind Kejriwal has decided to stay away from it. The programme will continue to be held but only in presence of Gopal Rai.

Kalsaria while speaking to media persons in Ahmedabad today said that Kejriwal has canceled his visit due to unavoidable circumstances. However AAP – Gujarat in its official note said that Kejriwal canceled his visit as he was busy in Delhi Municipal Corporation polls.

AAP Gujarat note further said that various frontal organization of AAP and names of State office bearers will be announced tomorrow in sammelan. The note also said that party will form door-to-door campaign strategy to reach every home in Gujarat.

It is not first time that Kejriwal has canceled his visit. In the past he had canceled his Surat visit and put forward an excuse that auditorium in local university was not allotted due to pressure of then Chief Minister Anandiben. Kejriwal recently also canceled his visit to Mahuva where he had to attend a function in presence of Morari Bapu.

Kejriwal’s move to cancel his Gujarat visit is also being viewed in the background of recently concluded assembly poll of five state. AAP through its internal surveys, friends in media and hyped projections was claiming victory in Punjab and Goa but contrary to its claim its all main candidates in Punjab lost elections. In Goa, AAP candidates lost deposit and the party couldn’t win even a single seat. With this, it appears that Kejriwal is rethinking his unrealistic plans to spread party beyond Delhi. Cancellation of his visit to Gujarat tomorrow is believed first move in this direction.

Looking at current scenario of AAP, there’s no possibility that party can win even a single seat in Gujarat polls. If AAP as per its plan fields candidates on all 182 seats, the gainer will be only the Election Commission which will earn lot of revenue through forfeited deposits. AAP was hoping to do big in Gujarat by roping in Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel to its fold but Hardik’s influence in Gujarat has significantly reduced in recent time. Also Hardik’s entire core team is full of Congress cadres. They don’t make it possible for Hardik to switch to AAP side.

Gujarat is going to witness general elections of assembly this year.
