Nehrunagar vegetable vendor dies of gunshot wound

Ahmedabad: A vegetable trader from Nehrunagar, who was shot on Saturday night, passed away in the hospital several hours after the incident. The attack occurred around 8 p.m. when two men on a motorcycle fired at 66-year-old Badaji Modi outside his shop. He was struck by a bullet in his left temple.

In the latest revelation, it has been revealed that the attack was carried out on the behest of Badaji’s nephews from his elder brother’s side due to some land dispute. The accused has been nabbed from Ratlam with the help of CCTV footage; he was given a contract of Rs. 25 lakh for killing Badaji. The probe will now be taken over by the crime branch.

This was the second attempt on Badaji’s life, according to his son, Ratanlal, who had suspected Badaji’s nephews were behind both attacks. As per Ratanlal, in the first incident on October 14, Badaji Modi was ambushed by two men on motorcycles while walking to his shop. One attacker pushed him to the ground, and the other tried to stab him. The assailants fled after Badaji screamed for help, leaving him with abdominal injuries. Despite filing a complaint, Ratanlal Modi found that the police investigation stalled when the officer took leave.

Ratanlal believes the attackers were motivated by family disputes, particularly with his cousins, who accused him of killing their father, Khetaji Modi, in Rajasthan. Although cleared of the charges, he suspects his cousins sought revenge.

Badaji’s family staged a protest at the hospital where he was admitted, demanding a thorough investigation into the case. After police assured Ratanlal that the killers would be caught within ten days, the family allowed the police to take Badaji’s body. The body was later sent to Civil Hospital in Asarwa for a post-mortem, which has been postponed until Monday morning. DeshGujarat
