Rs 3,145 crore annual plan for highways in Gujarat sanctioned, Rs 800 crore for conversion of SG highway to six lane

New Delhi/ Ahmedabad: The union government today sanctioned the annual plan of Rs 3145 crore for national high ways in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The sanctioned amount also includes Rs 800 crores for converting Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway (SG highway) to six lane.

Union Minister of state for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Chemical & Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya told newsmen in Delhi today that he has sanctioned Rs 3145 crores annual plan for highway in Gujarat which also includes Rs 800 crores for conversion of SG highway in to six lane.

‘In the last 3 years the union government has sanctioned 2244 km of new national highway to Gujarat. of this the work of around 1700 km has been completed,’ he said.

To a query he also said that the Dandi Heritage route would also be developed.

Notably the Dandi Heritage route is the over 300 km long route from Ahmedabad to Dandi in South Gujarat taken by Mahatma Gandhi for his historic Dandi March, and has been de-linked from National Highway No. 228, with a view to preserve the original ambience and heritage nature of Dandi Heritage Route and the distinct functional requirement of a National Highway. It was envisaged by the erstwhile UPA government.

Mr Mandaviya also said that the work on around 90 km long Gaddu-Porbandar highway segment would also be started soon.
