Pre Monsoon rain lash several areas on second consecutive day, at least 2 dead, 3 injured

Gandhinagar: Many areas in Gujarat including Rajkot which had received around 3 inches of downpour in around two hours last evening witnessed pre-monsoon showers on the second consecutive day today during which owing to falling of trees and water-logging normal life was disrupted and damage to food-grains and other agricultural produces were also reported.
At least two people including a 22 year old girl also died while at least 3 injured in rain related incidents across Gujarat in last 24 hours.
Various parts of Valsad, Tapi, Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, Junagadh, Rajkot, Morbi, Devbhoomi-Dwarka and Sabarkhantha districts received light to medium rains or thunderstorms today. In Vaghodia of Vadodara district showers accompanied by strong winds caused falling of several trees and in two such incidents trees fell on over a dozen houses, however fortunately none injured. Three workers of a factory reportedly injured in one such incident in Jetpur of Rajkot district.
One Hanif Usmanbhai (34) of Rajavadla village in Wankaner of Morbi and Hiralben Sakhrelia (22) in Jetpur died as lightening struck them during the rain. Hanif had died yesterday while Hiralben was struck by lightening while she was bathing in the rain on her terrace this evening.
Owing to rain and water-logging life in Rajkot was disrupted. The Railnagar underpass in the city remained water-filled till this afternoon. Agri produce like groundnut, wheat, pulses etc kept in open in Rajkot Market Yard got wet and damaged. A farmer said that he suffered loss as he has to sell wet groundnuts at a throwaway prices.
Even as met has predicted more spells of pre monsoon rain in South Gujarat and Saurashtra region in next four days and humidity was high owing to moist Southwesterly winds, temperatures at several places including Ahmedabad interestingly soared. 8 places recorded over 42°C temperatures with Surendranagar remaining hottest at 43.8°C. In all over 10 places has seen mercury rising above 40°C.
Maximum temperature in Ahmedabad at 42.7°C was 1.7°C above normal while the minimum at 30.2°C was also 2.5°C higher than normal.
Amid partly cloudy atmosphere, the met has predicted likelihood of drizzles or thundershowers in Ahmedabad too.
