Ashok Gehlot visits agitating textile traders in Surat, leaves as greeted with Modi…Modi slogans
July 05, 2017
Surat: Textile traders who are agitating against Goods and Service Tax(GST) today chanted slogans of Modi … Modi … when national general secretary of opposition party Indian National Congress Shri Ashok Gehlot who is also party’s Gujarat state incharge reached to visit them at textile market on ring road. State Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki was with Gehlot.
Gehlot who is on visit to South Gujarat for party’s organizational works left the place and went to circuit house amid pro-Modi slogans from agitating textile traders.
Congress in its defense claimed that those who chanted slogans were actually BJP cadres merged with textile traders.
It’s worth noting that Congress had condemned lathi charge over agitating traders day before yesterday. However police had later clarified that lathicharge was done in response to stone pelting and road blockade by some of the agitators. Police claimed that if light lathicharge in which none of agitators is even minorly injured was not done at that time, the situation could go worse.
BJP had alleged that Congress cadres who had merged with the agitating mob were responsible for stone pelting in which two policemen were injured following which the unfortunate incident of lathicharge occurred. BJP MP CR Patil had named some of Congress leaders who were present at the agitation venue and questioned why they were present there!
