Centre approves climate change projects in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Sikkim

New Delhi: National Steering Committee on Climate Change (NSCCC) today approved funding of climate change adaptation projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Sikkim, an official release said here today.NSCCC under chairmanship of Secretary Ministry of Environment and Forests Ajay Narayan Jha approved the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) that were submitted by the governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Sikkim regarding funding under the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC).A flagship scheme of the central Government, NAFCC provides 100 per cent grant to the state governments for projects related to climate change adaptation. The Scheme is designed to fulfill the objectives of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and to operationalize the State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC).During the past two years, a total of 21 projects worth Rs 435.72 crore have been approved to address vulnerabilities in climate sensitive sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, water, forests and coasts.With concerns growing over climate change, the government is encouraging States to come up with innovative projects to develop resilience against climate change and include them in the planning processes.
