Congress – Hardik Patel club is one of mutual deception: Arun Jaitley
November 22, 2017
New Delhi: In reply to a question related to Hardik Patel – Congress promise to Patidar community in Gujarat that reservation quot can go beyond 50%, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said here:
‘From the statements that I have seen so far, the Congress – Hardik club is one of mutual deception.’
‘The law of the land is very clear. And that’s laid down by the Supreme Court. And only in last week in a Rajasthan case it has been reaffirmed that 50% cap can’t be breached.’
‘So they can continue to mutually deceive each other and deceive the public by saying that we will device a methodology of breaching the cap. Legally and constitutionally that is not possible as the laws stand today.’
‘You can cite article 31C and say we will put it into 9th schedule but the entry in 9th schedule is also subject to judicial review which is subject to the challenge on basic structure, and therefore in election only those promises to each other and to the public which are capable of implementation. Otherwise you deceive yourself and you deceive your constituents.’
