Liquor permit of 19 license holders cancelled in Surat

Surat: Liquor permit of 19 permit holders has been cancelled by Prohibition department of Government of Gujarat in Surat.
About fortnight ago, the State Monitoring Cell had exposed a scam of liquor trade between permit holders and a wind shop owner. Departmental inquiry in this case was handed over to Vadodara based Prohibition Superintendent DV Joshi, while vigilance probe was handed over to vigilance officer Mr. Valvi.
During the probe it was revealed that beer teens captured from a bootlegger in Surat were supplied by as many as 19 permit holders. Liquor bottles sold to NRI or foreigners or tourists legally on the basis of permits were also found in bootlegger’s possession.
According to incharge superintendent of prohibition department Mr. Charkhawala, licenses of 19 permit holders are cancelled. Lal gate based Hosangji Hormasji and Sons wine shop has been served show-cause notice. Wine shop owner Yezdibhai’s liquor permit has also been cancelled while police sub inspector and constable are transferred as punishment.
