Ahmedabad: Veteran poet and author Niranjan Bhagat suffered brain stroke in the meeting of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. Bhagat saheb has been admitted to HCG hospital in Mithakhali which is located close to Sahitya Parishad.
According to details available, a meeting of Karobari committee of Gujarat Sahitya Parishad was held on Sunday in which 92-year old Niranjan Bhagat was present as Trustee. The main agenda of this meeting was Sahitya Parishad’s objection against its Karobari members participating in the programmes organized by Sahitya Academy. Two years ago, Sahitya Parishad had passed a resolution that none of its office bearers should participate in Sahitya Academy programmes. However Rajendra Patel, Usha Upadhyay and Pinki Pandya had attended such programmes for which all three had to tender apology in writing. While meeting was on, Nirjanbhai collapsed form his chair at around 7.00 pm. He was later taken to nearby HCG hospital. According to doctors, high blood pressure was cause of brain stroke.
Meanwhile Sahitya Academy chief Vishnu Pandya in Facebook post prayed for Niranjanbhai’s recovery and attributed his brain stroke to internal dispute of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad which according to Pandya was without reason.
