Surat Diamond Association felicitates Surat Police team that solved Rs. 20 crore diamond heist

Surat: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani felicitated the Surat Police team that solved the recent Rs.20-crore diamond heist at a public felicitation function organized by the Surat Diamond Association at the ‘diamond city’ last night. He also praised the diamond association’s initiative to felicitate the Surat Police, also engaged in educational and social activities.

The Surat Police had succeeded in solving the robbery within 60 hours of five robbers attacking an employee of Glow Star Diamond carrying diamond worth about Rs. 20-crore in Katargam locality in Surat on March 14 last, with the help of CCTV camera and modern technology.

Speaking highly about the State Police for ensuring safety and security of people and their property at the function, Mr. Rupani said that very law-and-order situation in the state has resulted in increased business activity and prosperity in the state, at the same time throwing a challenge to the custodians-of-law to keep crime under check.

He said The State Police had also succeeded in solving cases of loot, robbery and murder Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Kadi and other places in short time. He recalled that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat he had opened the country’s first Raksha Shakti University.

Mr. Rupani said the alertness and smartness of Gujarat Police is being discussed in India. The Surat Crime Branch had helped the Uttar Pradesh in arresting six accused in a case of robbery in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar on March 26 last. It has been the Gujarat Government’s policy to recognize and reward the police bravery from time to time to keep its morale high.

He said the government has decided to install CCTVs in all the 33 districts in the state, including six major pilgrims centre at a cost of Rs.325-crore. He launched a project called ‘Samarth’ and released a booklet by the same name, aimed at changing the criminal mentality.

Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja announced Rs.10-lakh incentive prize for the officers and employees of Surat Police engaged in solving the crime.
