Rupani said, the government announced a policy to encourage more spinning units in Gujarat but for weaving, the local units still need to depend on Southern India. Rupani gave example of Jetpur textile industry in this regard.
Rupani asked Reliance (group president of which Shri Parimal Nathwani was sharing stage) and Arvind to set up large garment units in Gujarat and take benefit of government’s policy and incentive schemes.
Rupani said Gujarat was major cotton growing state and if there’s complete value chain of textile, it will be beneficial for all including farmers.
Speaking in this function, the union textile minister Suresh Prabhu stressed on need to have large export market so that Indian textile units can work on their optimum capacity. Prabhu said the textile business was lucrative in the past and will remain to be lucrative in future because human beings are continuing to dress in cloths.
