Level at Narmada dam goes up
June 18, 2018
Bharuch: Each year 28 million acre ft water arrives in Narmada, of which 9 million acre ft is allotted to Gujarat. However due to poor monsoon in Narmada catchment areas, only 4.71 maf water had arrived from neighboring Madhya Pradesh last season. Thanks to power generation at upstream Indirasagar dam in Madhya Pradesh, the level of water at Narmada dam was up at 106.20 meter on Sunday compared to 105 meter earlier. The level went up due to 3331 cu sec inflow in addition to 3164.62 million cubic meter dead water storage. 3075 cu sec water is supplied through IBPT in Narmada dam, of which 2497 cu sec is supplied through canal. As per the award of Narmada tribunal, Madhya Pradesh gets 18.25 man, Gujarat 9 maf, Maharashtra 0.25 man and Rajasthan 0.5 man Narmada water out of total 28 maf. However due to poor monsoon last year, the water arrived was 55% less.
