June 21, 2018
Ahmedabad:
The south west monsoon which after its early entry in India from Kerala last month has weakened and slowed down in its further movement towards Gujarat is likely to set foot in this western state in the next week.
Earlier it was predicted that the monsoon would make an early entry in Gujarat too where the normal date of doing so was June 15 but despite good advance due to the sudden change in atmospheric conditions it got weakened and delayed.
The met bulletin today has made heavy rain prediction for parts of South Gujarat and adjoining union territories on June 25.
IMD center Ahmedabad Director and Senior Meteorologist Jayant Sarkar today said that the monsoon has not yet made its entry in to Gujarat.
‘It has delayed but the delay was not unusual. Monsoon rain distribution not always remains homogeneous. We are now expecting more rain in Gujarat from June 27 onward and it would be in South Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra region. This might mark the arrival of monsoon in the state,’ he said.
Meanwhile according to the met bulletin light to moderate rain would continue to be witnessed at isolated places in south Gujarat, Saurashtra and union territories of Diu and Daman in next 4 days.
Maximum temperatures very likely to remain in the range of 40 to 41 degree Celsius in North Gujarat and Saurashtra regions in the next two days.
Notably, monsoon had made an early entry last year (on June 12) and in all there was over 110% rain.
