13.45 maf storage against 28 maf capacity in Narmada basin, enough for drinking water for a year: Nitin

Gandhinagar: Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel who also is minister of Narmada department today said the level of water in Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam as on 10 am today was around 121 meter.
He said storage capacity in entire Narmada basin area including Indirasagar, Sardar Sarovar and other dams is 28 million acre ft(maf). As per the Narmada Control Authority award, Gujarat would get 9.6 maf water if 28 maf water is stored. However the total storage at present is only 13.45 maf. Therefore Gujarat is going to get only around half of 9.6 maf water.
Nitin added that with this much of storage, drinking water availability would not be an issue throughout the year.
