Gandhinagar: Gujarat assembly today passed a bill for setting up Gujarat Biotechnology University.

According to the State government, proposed university will have research and innovation based course structure. Students of proposed university will along with studies also develop own innovative product, process or prototype and get training to set up a business based on it.

In order to develop a strong eco system for development of biotechnology sector, the state government has set up Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission, Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre, Savli Technology and Business Incubator etc institutions.

Before setting up the university, a survey was conducted among 600 students across 15 universities through which it was found that most students were connected to theoretical knowledge. Most students had shown interest to join a programme based on research and practice. The experts had also consulted international level educationists, faculties and scientists.
