Congress MLAs meet Gujarat Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of MLAs Pabubha Manek and Alpesh Thakor
May 08, 2019
Gandhinagar: A group of Congress leaders including State Congress chief Amit Chavda, Leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani and MLAs today called on Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi and demanded disqualification of two MLAs Pabubha Manek and Alpesh Thakor.
BJP MLA from Dwarka, Pabubha’s election has been declared void by the Gujarat High Court for technical error in his nomination form. Pabubha’s election was challenged by rival Congress candidate. When challenged the High Court verdict, the Supreme Court denied relief to Pabubha but put the matter on halt till next hearing in September. The Supreme Court also denied election on Manek’s Dwarka assembly seat till final verdict is given.
Radhanpur Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor has announced his resignation from all posts of Congress party. He has not resigned from the primary membership of Congress party and also refused to resign as MLA. Congress has demanded his disqualification. Thakor however argues that as he has not breached any whip of party, he can not be disqualified.
