Justice Trivedi commission report tabled in Gujarat Assembly

Gandhinagar: Justice (Retired) D K Trivedi Commission inquiry report related to the investigation of the death of two boys of Gurukul school in the Ahmedabad Ashram of controversial self-styled god-man Asaram Bapu was tabled in the Gujarat assembly today.

Two boys Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhshek Vaghela (11) had gone missing from the Ahsram situated in Motera area of Ahmedabad on July 3, 2008. Their bodies were found later on July 5 on the banks of river Sabarmati behind the Ashram.

Parents of the two students had alleged the spiritual leader and his son Narayan Sai (both of whom were now in jail in connection with rape cases) had performed ‘black magic’ on their wards, which resulted in their death.

Later an inquiry commission headed by retired High Court Judge D K Trivedi was set up that year. The commission which was to submit its report in 3 months time had got over half a dozen extensions and finally did so in July 2013. The report was table in the assembly today.

It says that there were no evidence to suggest that in Ashram, Asaram and son Narayan Sai performed any Tantrik ritual or sacrificed the boys. It has also said that possibility of death due to drowning can’t be ruled out as per medical evidence. No organs from dead body of Dipesh were removed.

Notably in this case CID in a separate investigation had booked seven people under 304 of the IPC ie for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
