October 20, 2019
Gandhinagar: Once the largest subscribers market share holding company, Bharti Airtel seems to be going through very bad phase. Post-merger with Tata Teleservices, Airtel has lost over 2.60 lakh numbers in Gujarat circle. It is believed that the Tata Teleservices users chose to port out from Airtel as they were not so satisfied with service.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) issued the wireless (mobile) subscription numbers of August 2019 on Friday. The report reveals that Airtel over 78,000 users in August, 2019 and over 1.84 lakh numbers were reduced in July 2019. Together, the mobile company has lost over 2.63 lakh subscribers since June 2019. By the end of August 2019, Airtel had less than 1.10 crore subscribers in Gujarat.
Nationally too, the telecom operator has witnessed heavy loss during the period. The Tata Teleservices users seems not happy with the services, hence most of them moving to other operators. By end of June 2019, the operator had 33.10 crore users in India which reduced to 32.79 crore by end of August 2019, the report said. Airtel witnessed loss of over 31 lakh users in two months.
Industry experts believe that several Tata Teleservices have been porting out to other telecom company services. “Since launch of its services, Airtel has been struggling to become third largest operator in Gujarat. Post launch new operators, telecom industry is still going through consolidation phase. As an impact, Airtel always kept on struggling to capture revenue and consumer market share in state. And so, customers of operator might have decided to opt other companies,” said industry expert on condition of anonymity.
The Trai report also reveals that Vodafone Idea lost over 4.84 lakh numbers in Gujarat in August 2019. Despite insolvency and closure of business, Reliance Communication reveals that it has over 500 numbers. The state-owned telecom company, BSNL posted a positive growth of over 8,000 numbers in Gujarat. Reliance Jio too posted growth of over 4 lakh numbers.
