Gujarat govt. will ensure culprits of 3 recent rape cases get capital punishment and hanged: MoS Home Jadeja

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today said that it would ensure that the culprits of the three recent rape/sexual exploitation cases in Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara were given capital punishment as per law.
Addressing a press conference Minister of State for Home, Pradipsinh Jadeja told newsmen here today that the culprits of Rajkot and Surat incidents have already been nabbed while attempts were on to arrest the culprits of Vadodara incident for which 25 teams of police were active taking help of technical surveillance and human intelligence and sketches of the culprits have been prepared.
He said that in the past too the state government had been successful in getting strict punishments to the culprits of such crimes.
Jadeja said that in all the three cases special public prosecutors would be appointed, the state government would request the high court for hearing of these cases in the fast track courts.
‘We would ensure that the culprits get maximum punishment as per the amended law ie capital punishment,’ he said.
Jadeja also said that the victims would be given financial assistance as per related Victims Compensation Act. The procedure for it has been initiated.
He said that the state government has taken several steps to curb the crimes and such crimes have decreased this year in comparison to last year. The children were also being given training regarding good and bad touch. Patrolling in secluded areas and areas vulnerable to crimes against women would be intensified. Jadeja said that on the instructions of CM Vijay Rupani, the home and the law departments and police have resolved to ensure that the culprits in the three cases were given capital punishment. ‘The Charge-sheets would be filed at the earliest. We had ensured 20 years jail term to a culprit of rape case in Athwa area of Surat, jail till death for another such culprit of Dindoli area and capital punishment for the one in Limbayat area of the city and 20 years term to a culprit of rape incident of Idar area in Sabarkantha district,’ he said.
