SMC using mobile app to track home quarantined persons, violation to invite fine, institutional quarantine and police case

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has developed a mobile app to track those who are sent to home quarantine. Those in violation will face a police case and also need to pay fine.
SMC Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani in his order said, ‘the citizens will require to inform SMC about foreign returned persons on toll free number 1800 123 8000 or those who are returned from abroad will need to file a self declaration form on SMC website compulsorily. Such persons will need to follow home quarantine/isolation protocol. They will also require to download SMC Covid-19 mobile app and set their location. SMC will track their location constantly.If they step out of set limits of their location and find in violation, they will be compulsorily shifted to quarantine ward of SMC and booked under IPC sections 188, 269, 270, 271 and Epidemic disease act – 1897 section 2, 14, rule 11. They will also need to pay Rs. 25,000 fine.’
Surat has witnessed three confirm coronavirus positive cases and one death so far.
Nearly 600 persons were under home quarantine in Surat as on Saturday. Three persons were already fined by SMC for violation. SMC facilities had also 47 persons including 39 in Samras hostel, 6 in Vesu and 2 in Weekend hotel who paid for facilities.
