Gujarat govt announces new Solar power policy 2021

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has today announced its Solar Policy – 2021. As per the policy, any person, developer, industry can set up solar project in its premises or land without any limit. A limit of only 50 per cent of sanctioned load/contract demand for industry to set up solar project has been removed. Power consumers wiwll be able to set up solar projects on their rooftop or vacant place. They can also offer their space to third party for power generation and utilization. An amount of security deposit for PPA given to power companies has been cut from Rs 25 lakh per MW to Rs. 5 lakh per MW. New solar power policy will be effective till 31st of December 2025. Under this policy, solar projects benefits can be availed for 25-year project period. A group of consumers can invest jointly to set up a solar project and can utilize the power generated in ratio of their investment.

The Chief Minister while announcing the policy said, ‘this policy will bring power cost to industry down from Rs. 8 per unit to around Rs. 4.50. It will bring production cost down, thanks to which the products manufactured in Gujarat will be able to compete globally. Gujarat’s will be the first open solar policy.’
