Congress fields 25 Muslim candidates in AMC elections; AIMIM fields 21 Muslims

Ahmedabad: Opposition Congress party has fielded 25 Muslim candidates from 12 wards in AMC election, scheduled to take place later this month. In Maktampura ward, all four candidates of Congress party are Muslims. Congress had in previous AMC election in 2015 had fielded 24 Muslim candidates, of whom 20 were victorious while one Muslim candidates was victorious as independent. Congress had fielded four Muslim candidates in Maktampura ward, two in Shahpur, two in Dariyapur, one each in Saraspur and Rakhial, two in Khadiya, three in Jamalpur, one in Sarkhej, three in Baherampura, two in Danilimda, one in Maninagar, three in Gomtipur and one in Vatva ward.

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not fielded even a single Muslim candidate in AMC election.

Hyderabad based Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has fielded 21 candidates from 6 wards in Ahmedabad including 2 former women councilors of Congress party. The wards in which AIMIM has fielded candidates include Jamalpur, Khadia, Baherampura, Gomtipur, Dariyapur and Maktampura.
