Gold coating work of Shiv statue in Sursagar lake of Vadodara kicks off

Vadodara: The process of coating Lord Shiva’s tall statue located in the center of city’s Sursagar lake, with gold kicked off today, on the occasion of the festival of ‘Mahashivaratri’.
Total 16 kgs of Gold costing over Rs. 8 crore will be used to fully cover the 111 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva.
The inauguration of this work was done by Gujarat CM Vijaybhai Rupani, in presence of Deputy CM Nitin Patel and Gujarat BJP President CR Patil today evening.
This work is assigned to Odisha based artisans Rajendra Nayak and his team, who have experience of gold-coating at around 50 religious sites across the country including Vadtal, Junagadh, Swaminarayan temple at Dholera, Ambaji and Shirdi Sai Baba temple.
It is to be noted that the statue has been covered with Copper upto half of its length. The statue will be coated with two layers of Gold, each consisting of about 8 kgs. Total 2.40 lack pieces of gold leaf/ sheets, with size of 4×6 inches will be used in covering the entire statue. The target of covering the whole statue with gold is expected to.be achieved by the next Mahashivratri in the year 2022.
