Gujarat tops in 18+ covid vaccination on 1st day

Gandhinagar: Even as vaccine is considered to be the infallible weapon against coronavirus Covid-19, Gujarat topped in the nationwide campaign for vaccination on the first day of the launch today in select states for the 18-44 age group as per the guidelines of the Central Government.
In Gujarat, it was taken up in 10 districts, including municipal corporation areas of of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar, besides Mehsana, Kutch and Bharuch districts.
The state health department covered 55,235 people out of 60,000 (92 per cent) planned for the day. Total 80,000 doses were distributed.
The other states where the campaign was launched today are Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab and Tamil Nadu, besides Jammu & Kashmir.
It was due to the relentless efforts of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani being in constant touch with Pune-based Serum Institute, that 3-lakh vaccines have already been received.
The online registration had begun on April 28 last, which received widespread response and most registered online.
In addition to this, another 1,61,858 vaccines of first and second dozes were given to healthcare workers, frontline corona warriors above-45 age.
